Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serve.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
